Walk A Mile – A Foster Care Awareness Event

A 1 mile walk to promote AWARENESS and RESPONSE to the needs of Oklahoma’s 11,000 plus foster children.

Bring a suitcase to pull or carry during the walk – symbolic of the many moves foster kids endure due to the shortage of foster homes.

New or used suitcases may be donated after the walk to Oklahoma’s foster kids, who often have only a trash bag to use for their personal belongings.

Though the Laura Dester Children’s Center may be scheduled to close in the coming months, children and teens are still in need of shoes and clothes while staying at the shelter.  One staff commented, “Our donations have dropped dramatically since the news of the closing, but the kids still need shoes and clothes.  Especially teen and adult sizes.  The kids still come in with very little.”  Donated items can be brought to the shelter on the day of the event – or any time!
